About Wuyi

 

With a very favorable geographical location, Wuyi is situated at 119°27′~119°28′ east longitude and 28°31′~29°03′ north latitude. From south to north, it is 59 kilometers and from east to west it is 50 kilometers occupying an area of 1577.2 square meters. It has a population of 32.8 hundred thousand, of which 10 hundred thousand live in urban areas. There are several major traffic lines through the city: Jin Wen Railway, Jin Li Wen Highway, 330 National Highway, 44 Provincial Highway. It is only 45 minutes driving time to get to Yiwu, 2 hours driving time to Hangzhou or Wenzhou and 4 hours driving time to Shanghai.


Wuyi has a humid subtropical monsoon climate, which is warm and humid. Its average annual temperature is 16.9℃ and the annual precipitation is 1445.7mm. It has four distinct seasons: a shorter spring and autumn, and a longer summer and winter. The frost free period is about 214 to 242 days. Annual sunlight ratio is 1963.7 hours and the annual radiation is 108.3 Kcal/ per square centimeter.


With more than 1300 years’ history, Wuyi County was established on 691AD. In October 1958, Wuyi County was combined with Yongkang County. In October 1961, Wuyi became to be the independent county again including 8 towns, 7 villages and 3 subdistricts.


During Earlier Song Dynasty (1041-1048), Wuyi government established “Xian Xuan” which is the collage offering high education for local people. During Qing Dynasty (1167 - 1176), the famous masters of Confucian School of idealist philosophy of the Song Dynasties - Lv Zuqian and Zhu Xi lectured in Wuyi Ming Zhao Temple forming the unique style of Ming Zhao Culture. With the charming nature view and long history, Wuyi is the poetic home town for Pan Mohua who is the Lake Poet and leader of New Culture Movement (around the time of the May 4th Movement in 1919), the well-known economist Qian Jiaju, the traditional Chinese Realistic painter Pan Jiezi and the agronomist Fang Cuinong.


With the rich nature and human culture resource, Wuyi possesses Shuxi Bridge, one of the local famous tourist spots with more than 800 hundred history, the Hot Spring called “No.1 in Zhejiang, Top in East China” which has 6000 ton water flow/per day and the average temperature during 42℃—45℃. Qing Shui Wan Spa and Hot Spring Spa are the ideal leisure place during the trips. There are also several national tourist spots such as Shou Xian Valley, Liu Xiu Ridge and Guo Dong Ancient Ecological Village. Guests can enjoy the variety folk customs during the holidays and trips.


Wuyi is called the “China Organic Tea (with no pesticide or chemical) Hometown”. The special local product Jin Hua Ham, FIU-OH-Litt, Xuan Lian lotus seed, (Wild)Edible Mushroom and high mountain vegetable win honor on international exhibitions.


In 2002, gross domestic product (GDP) for the whole county is RMB35.5 hundred million, surge by 12.0% compared to the same period last year; GDP per capita is $1300; total financial revenue & expenditure is RMB3.25 hundred million, surge by 30.3% compared to the same period last year and peasant per capita is RMB3202. From January to June this year, the gross domestic product is RMB19.22 hundred million, total financial revenue & expenditure is RMB2.36 hundred million, recommending 110 industry enterprises and cooperating foreign direct investment RMB26.415 million dollars.
